The snow that fell yesterday as cherry blossoms
is water again.
The poem speaks only of "hana" flower, but in the tradition of haiku, this word means "cherry blossom." The ancient Japanese literature compares the flowers fall to the snow. Both images seem not only visually, they share the metaphorical meaning of transience. The cherry blossom is only a week, and falling snow melts in spring almost immediately after touching the ground.
